If you are under 28 years of age, you benefit from the student social security. You can sign up for any of these coverages: SMERRA or LMDE when registering at your French institution of higher education.
If you are 28 or older you have to request your affiliation to the basic Protection Universelle Maladie (“Universal Healthcare Coverage") system at the CPAM of Rhône, that will cover you from your first day of study in France.
YOUR SPOUSE (VISA VISITEUR) AND YOUR adult child
Your spouse and your adult children can benefit from the Protection Universelle Maladie (PUMA) of the French social security, after 3 months of residency in France. They will have to request an affiliation to the Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie (CPAM) of Rhône.
YouR MINOR CHILD: BENEFICIARY
The minor child (under 18 years old) benefits from your rights of affiliation of PUMA. For that, you will have to request an attachement, as indicated in the list of supporting documents.
