BEWARE:
It is essentiel that you and your family have health coverage during your stay in France, either by a private insurance or covered by a Social Security scheme.

In case you do not have a French working contract, you may - under certain conditions - be eligible for the French social security system.

Without French working contract, your request for affiliation will be studied after having lived 3 months in France but the answer can be negative. Therefore, before leaving your country:

- If you still have rights to health coverage in your previous European country of residence, it is strongly recommended to request:

- If you have no further rights to health coverage in your previous European country of residence, it is strongly recommended to arrive with a private health insurance.

With a French employment contract

You are eligible for Universal Healthcare Protection under French Social Security from the first day of employment in France. You will need to register with the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM) in the Rhône département. Children under 18 are eligible for Universal Healthcare Protection under French Social Security. You will need to register your children at the same time as you.

Your spouse and children over the age of 18 may be eligible for Universal Healthcare Protection (PUMA) under French Social Security after 3 months residing in France and only if they can provide backup documents certifying they do not have any health coverage in another European country. They will need to register individually with the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM) in the Rhône département.

Without a French employment contract

As a non-salaried scientist, you (and your family) may be eligible for Universal Healthcare Protection under French Social Security after three months of residence in France and only if you can provide backup documents certifying you do not have any health coverage in another European country. You will need to register individually with the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM) in the Rhône département.
